And now, a Photo #3
Several photos, actually. In my last installment here, I shared a photo of a night time view down a street in Manhattan, with One World Trade Center rising in the distance. Well, today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of 9-11-01--one of the worst days in American history--and I decided to look at the other photos I took from that same trip a couple of days later, when we went down to the Ground Zero site. They're older photos, from two cameras and three phones ago, so I gave them new edits using Snapseed, and here they are:

As stunning beautiful and simple and tasteful as the memorial is, with those four-sided waterfalls tumbling into squares forming the exact footprints of those towers, it's the names engraved all the way around that got me. The temptation was to walk all the way around, reading every single name. How do you just...stop, when there are more names, so many more names, who need to be honored and remembered?
On that day in late 2015, the area was still under quite a bit of construction. The museum was not yet opened, and Oculus was still in the works. A potent reminder that no matter what happens to New York, that city doesn't stop. Not even a singular act of once unimaginable terror can make New York stop.
In memoriam of all those lost,

I have written much more about 9-11-01 on my official site.
